Printed Burlap Bag

Two Words that I never knew existed.. Printed Burlap!
Oh.. Yeah!  So here I was wandering around in Joanne's with my little girl looking at felt to make some Valentine's (can't wait to share this one!) when BAM.. I walked right into this A-mazingly lovely Printed Burlap.. yes my friends it was love at first sight.. and I knew we just belonged together!

And here we are together at last.. cause I made it into a bag!.. Yes that's right friends, I sewed something!
I came up with my own pattern and everything!
So if you want to make one.. I can kind of help you with this short but sweet tutorial!
I started by cutting my pattern out of an old paper bag.
Then I pinned it to my lining fabric and added about an inch to each side.
Then I place it on top of the burlap and cut the same pattern.
Now I have two of each pattern.   Next I pinned the right sides of the black fabric together and did the same with the burlap.
Then I sewed.

Next I flipped the black fabric right side out and pinned it into the inside of the printed burlap.
Once sewn, I flipped it right side out and had a lined bag.. sort of .. it still needed handles.
Next I cut out two lengths of fabric, one in the black and one in burlap to make a handle.
Then I pinned the pieces right sides together and sewed.
Once complete I flipped it right side out.

Last I flipped the inside of the top inside of itself and tucked the strap into the pocket and hand sewed it into place.  Then I added the pocket and
bow to the front .. but sew your pocket on first.. it's easier!
And viola.. a new purse from my new favorite fabric!
By the way, someone with better sewing skills probably could have done a better job.. but what can I say.. I'm a work in progress!
I am sharing with
