That Darn Hot Glue Gun!

For days now I have been frantically looking for my hot glue gun.  I have now torn apart my ENTIRE house looking for any one of my ever elusive hot glue guns.. there are 4 in total.  After spending hours I have been unsuccessful and so I decided that it was time to purchase a new one.

I feel kinda wasteful about it but when I find my other glue guns I am going to donate atleast 2 of them to someone else's crafting cause.  Any takers let me know!
Of course, now that said glue gun is in my possession I am sure to find All of the missing guns!  The reason that I wanted to glue gun sooo badly was because I wanted to make a fall wreath for my door.  As I may have mentioned this is the first real fall that I will be in my new house and I want it to be special!
So I fired up my new gun and got to work.  I once again I went to my fall stash reserves and found some really cute items.

I put them all together and made this cute wreath for my door!  Yeah!

Most of my fall stash is now busted!  All I have left now is a couple of pumpkin buckets and some scarecrows.  I am going to use one of the pumpkin buckets as a gift for a new neighbor.  Of course it will be filled with some homemade banana bread and a cute scarecrow!

Tag.. I'm it!

So yesterday was a big day of firsts for me.  The biggest most important one was that my daughter had her first day of 3rd grade and my middle guy had his first day of kindergarten!

The next first was that I actually won a giveaway!  Yes.. my first in all of my 31 years!  Soo exciting.

I won 100 digital postcards from inktree press at This crazy life http://thiscrazylife-michelle.blogspot.com/  I am hoping that these come in handy for my upcoming craft shows!
The last first is that I got tagged in a post by Kati at the Multipurpose life!
So now I have to answer 8 questions!  Here goes:

1. What is one thing you just can not stand?
I cannot STAND when I lose things.. however, it seems to happen more and more often!

2. If you could go back to your childhood, what cartoon or t.v. show would you pick to be your all-time favorite?
I hate to admit it .. but one of my all time favorite shows was Beverly Hills 90210.  I remember that since I grew up in an age before TIVO I would walk to my friend Korin's house and watch the new episodes with big bowls of popcorn!

3. What's something you do or have done that would surprise a lot of people?
I am pretty predictable.. so there is not much that I have done or do that is surprising.  If I had to chose something though, I would say that it would surprise people that I ran a half marathon in under 2 hours after only ever having run in 5K's.

4. do you believe in ghosts?
I DO believe in ghosts.. but don't tell my kids ok?  They don't know and I don't want to freak them out!

5. when you go into a store whats your weakness, something you just can't help yourself from buying more of?
If I am in a department store, I just cannot resist a new pair of shoes!  If I am in the craft store.. it is hard to control myself at all.. but I love to buy wood products that can be painted and decoupaged!

6. what is the funniest story you have on your significant other?
When my husband and I went on our honeymoon my parents got us a rental car to drive.  After we picked it up and drove it for about an hour we decided that it was NOT a safe car to drive.  We checked with the dealer and were told that we could bring it back and exchange it for another vehicle, however, we had to be there in 1/2 hour as they were closing.  We drove around for about 25 minutes looking for the place and finally my husband decided to stop at a convenience store for directions.  While he was in the store a car that was similar in color and make to the car we were driving parked next to us.  I watched as my husband walked out of the store, opened the other car door, sat down in the driver seat, turned on the ignition and looked into the passenger seat only to meet .... a complete stranger!  I was in the car next to him crying because I was laughing so hard.  My poor husband looked mortified and the two women who were in the car with him were laughing soo hard they couldn't speak!  It was priceless!

7. what is your proudest moment of being a parent? {animals do count ;)}
I have lots of proud mommy moments.. it is sooo hard to chose just one.  I think my proudest moments for my daughter is her thoughtful moments when she makes a card, or present for someone who needs a little cheering up.  My proudest moment of my middle guy is when he tells people that he cannot eat something because his mommy says that he shouldn't.  My proudest mommy moment of my littlest guy was when he was in the hospital after his dog bite and never cried or complained about anything.  Truly amazing!

8. if you could go back and relive one day of your life, which day would you choose?
I would relive all of my deliveries.. I would love to have that moment in time to cherish forever.. as it went by sooo fast!

So now that you have my answers.. here are the 5 people that I would like to tag!
Cecily @ Craftopotamus
Cheryl @ Crafter's Anonymous Club
Maria @ Bubblegum and Duct Tape
Amy Anne @ Bean Street Market Blog
Amy @ The Butcher, The Baker and the Craft Maker

Feel Like I'm Falling for Fall!

Have I mentioned that I LOVE Fall??  Everything about it.. I love the pumpkin flavored ice cream, the chill in the morning air here in NJ, crunching on leaves, the beautiful colors of the season and of course the decorations.  Everything looks so happy in the fall with the bright colors and the pumpkins and scarecrows everywhere.  Seeing all of these things has put me in a decorating mood.  This is the first fall that we are spending in our new house and I am just sooo excited to be here!
In the spirit of Stashbusting September I busted out all of my old fall decorating paraphenalia.

I found rafia, ribbon, pumpkins, scarecrows, buckets, wheel barrows and a wreath.  I grabbed the kids and we got busy!
Here's what we came up with!

And here is the adorable pumpkin picture that my lovely daughter painted for me!

Next I am working on a cute wreath for the door, however i can't finish it until I find that darn hot glue gun!
But enough for tonight.. still have lots to do to get ready.. tomorrow is the first day of school.  I sniffle to think that my middle guy is starting Kindergarten and my little girl is going into 3rd grade!

Shameless Self Promotion (Oh NO!)

I just can't help it.. the title says it all.  But being able to share and sell my products is all new to me soo it is still really exciting as I hope it will always be.  I check my emails daily and I find that I am always surprised and overjoyed when I receive emails from my bloggy friends and conversations via etsy regarding Pinkapotamus.  This morning I was very surprised to find an email saying that I was being featured on Cute Cupcakes All The Time  http://cutecupcakesallthetime.blogspot.com/

I had been thinking about making a little cupcake wall hanging (just because cupcakes are really cute) and trying out some of the Mod Podge dimensional magic which I had bought a few weeks ago.   I finished it and listed it on my etsy site and no less than 2 hours later I received a conversation about being featured!  Yeah!  Here is the pic that was featured!

And by the way I was sooo excited with the end result of the Mod Podge dimensional magic!  It made the cherry look like it was slick and shiny and it really stands off the wall hanging.  I can't wait to use it again!

By the way if I haven't mentioned it before I am Stash Busting  with The T shirt diaries  at http://www.thetshirtdiaries.com/ and really having fun doing it.  I am proud to say that this was a totally stash busted product!  In addition, I have not only busted some other good stash which I will share tomorrow, but I have also cleaned lots of cluttered surfaces off to display my newly made items!  My hubby is super happy!

Sorry for the shameless self promotion.. but really it is more about sharing the love and excitement of all things crafty!  I would love to hear about everyone else's features too!

Best Macaroni and Cheese EVA!

Today was a bad day... and when I say bad I mean BAD!  I have suffered from asthma for years now and usually run to control it.. but today after several days of not feeling good.. I just couldn'nt breathe.  Needless to say I took a quick trip to the hospital, had a couple of breathing treatments, got several new prescriptions and am feeling MUCH better!
Sometimes when I'm feeling bad I find that some really yummy comfort is in order.  So tonight for dinner I wanted something super yummy and quick, my own 30 minute meal so to speak.  So I made my favorite Macaroni and Cheese from scratch!  Here's the recipe so you can enjoy too!

Ingredients
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup flour
2 cups milk (any % depending on how lowfat you want it)
1 package of any kind of shredded cheese
1 lb package of pasta (I like elbows best)
1 package of frozen broccoli or peas

The RUE!
Okay for those of you who don't know what a rue is it is a wonderful base for ANY cream sauce.  It is really versatile and super easy to make.. and it sound fancy when you tell people about it!  So here goes.
In a sauce pan heat the butter over medium heat until melted.

Once melted whisk in the flour until mixed.. do not let it BURN!

Then add in all of the milk and whisk until it comes to a boil.

Once it has boiled, season with salt and pepper to taste.  Cover and simmer for 30 minutes stirring occasionally.

In another pot on the stove boil your water for pasta.   Once you have thrown in the pasta to boil add the cheese to your rue.

Turn off the heat and set aside.  Drain the pasta and then toss together with the cheese sauce and your vegetable.

Then sit down and eat up!    Here's what ours looked like with some grilled chicken and steamed broccoli.

Now since I was not feeling well.. I did not get much crafting done.  However, I did finish a custom order that I was working on and come to think of it, it was made with all materials that I had in my stash.. So we'll just call it stashbusting project #2.  I am pretty proud of it as it is the first Fox that I have ever made.  Hope you like it!

By the way, I was just wondering if I am the only one out there who keeps both their kitchen aid for baking and their cricut for crafting on the counter in the kitchen?

September

Wow!  I am soo excited to report that I now have 30 followers!  Thanks sooo much for following and I am so happy that you're here!  I promise when we get to 100 I will do a super fun giveaway!
Speaking of giveaways, today is my first giveaway at Making the World  Cuter http://makingtheworldcuter.blogspot.com/ .  It is for a custom
10" x 10" wall hanging in addition to products from 4 other crafters and Tiff did a really sweet write up on my products!  Thanks for the love!

So September is here!  As all of you mothers know September is just about the craziest time of year.  School shopping, the beginning of organized activities (for me this will include soccer for 2, karate, swimming and Brownie meetings), lots of check writing and too much shuttling the kids back and forth.  But I have to say that I love the schedule and the structure that it provides for me and the kids.
That being said I have decided that in September I am going to challenge myself (even more).  I have signed on with The T-Shirt diaries at http://www.thetshirtdiaries.com/ to participate in Stash Busting September along with some other serious crafters.

If anyone read I Confess.. you will understand that I have quite a stash to bust.  The rules are simple.. I must complete at least one upcycled project this month and I may NOT spend any money on crafting materials for all of my projects for the whole month of September!  Oh My Gosh!  This is going to be a tough one!  There are certain exceptions, however.  I will be able to purchase items for my etsy site and also for my Brownie troop.   And I confess that I made an emergency stop at AC Moore yesterday to purchase some last minute supplies!  I think I can do this!  Besides I told my Hubby about it and he was thrilled to say the VERY least .. you know a whole month without buying crafting supples.. phew what a savings!  In the meantime, I have been going through my supplies and thinking of new projects to tackle.. I am really looking forward to the challenge!
I started today by working on a garden bucket that I had.  It was just a plain black bucket that I bought at Christmas Tree Shops for $2.
I used Mod Podge to put some cute little pumpkins onto the bucket, then added some raffia, pumkpins and a scarecrow.  And of course I got some use out of trusty Cricut to put the word Pumkpin on it, so now it says pumpkin garden (the garden part is hard to see).

The I put it on my shoe organizer as a Fall decoration!   My first on the first of September!

Pretty cute, huh?

Pinkapotamus

Hoo Are You.. Part 13 (but 6 for me)

Here are this weeks questions from Hoo Are You Tuesdays!  Don't forget that this fun Tuesday activity is brought to you by Leslie @ http://nightowlcrafting.blogspot.com/

1. What is your least favorite thing to clean in your house?
My least favorite thing to clean in the house is the bathroom.  I live with three boys so after a week it tends to be really yucky!

2. What color of shirts do you wear the most?
Most of the time I wear either black or brown.  I love to wear white but with 3 kids.. not much of a possibility.
3. Do you have long hair or short hair?
I currently have very long hair.  It is past my shoulders.. but I don't really have any hair attachment and there is a good possibility that I will get the urge and chop it.

4. What time do you usually eat dinner?
We usually eat dinner around 6.  My kids go to bed around 7 so we like to give them time to digest before bed.

5. What is your favorite dessert?
Hmmm.  That is  a tough one.  It would have to be a toss up between carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and pumpkin ice cream!  But I would take either any day!

Can't wait to see everyone else's answers!  Happy Tuesday!

Pinkapotamus
