Mini Diaper Cake!

This morning I was working on some stashbusting.. but a few items kept creeping into view.. diapers and onsies and washcloths.. oh MY!
So I decided that it would be fun to craft up a super cute mini diaper cake!
Since fondant cakes are all the rage right now.. I thought what could be more appropriate than a fondant inspired mini cake?
So here is mine!
The Mini Cake is made of 12 diapers, two small stretchies, a burp cloth and a wash cloth.  A perfect little gift for any expectant Mommy!

Stashbusting Inspiration #2.. Pink Tulle Skirt

So I am still trying to get you guys to join Stashbusting September.. so here is yet another project for inspiration.. My Pink Tulle Skirt as modeled by my gorgeous girl!
And of course here is a quick tutorial on how I made it!
Ingredients
Fabric
Tulle
Elastic
Cutting Mat
Rotary tool
Sewing machine
Pins
Thread

Start by cutting your fabric to the desired size and pin your elastic into place.  (I know you are supposed to sew the space and THEN put in the elastic.. but this works better for ME!)

Then sew!

Next add your layer of tulle to the bottom.  I ironed my bottom seam and then pinned the tulle to the top and sewed it all at once.

Do this as many times as you want until you get the desired effect!

Last pin the right sides together and sew your back seam.   And now you have a skirt!

Find your favorite model and try it on!

Hooo's Holding the Bag?

Since I have fallen in love with my sewing machine I have been churning out projects like CRAZY!
So one of the ones that I have recently finished is this adorable Owl bag!

It was repurposed from a plain canvas bag that I had leftover from a GS meeting two years ago.

So here is a quick tutorial for those of you hooo would like to make one of your own!

Ingredients
1 canvas bag
several pieces of fabric
buttons
sewing materials

First start by cutting your canvas bag into an owl shape.  Then measure a piece of fabric so that it will fit into the canvas bag as a lining.

Next cut out the shapes that you are going to add to your bag to make the owl face.  Then sew on.

When the face is done add your fabric lining by pinning it into the canvas bag and turning inside out.

Sew together and then add your strap back onto the bag.

Now you have a super adorable owl bag!

Sooo hooo's holding the bag now?  You are!
Check back tomorrow to see what I made the top of the bag into!

One Dress = Two Projects!

On Mother's Day I decided that I would put old grievances aside and start a "new" relationship.  No it's not with my Mother sillies.. we have been cool since my teenage years ended.. (boy was that rough).. but rather with my
SEWING MACHINE!

I have been seeing all of these awesome sewing projects here in blog land and I decided that I want to be awesome too!
So on Mother's Day my daughter and I sat down with the machine and started crafting!
I started with an old summer dress that I found "spring " cleaning.
The first present that I made myself  was an altered book purse!
I started with the cover of an old kid's book, my dress, scrapbook paper, Mod Podge, beaded purse handles and some rhinestones.

I covered the book with the scrapbook paper

and then I followed the directions at curbly.com to make this!
I was sooo excited because I always wanted to make one!

After the purse was made I had exactly half a dress leftover.  I am Always complaining that I need an apron.. if you ever saw me bake.. you would understand.. I look like I have been through a flour war!
So I took my half dress and made an apron!

To make it I cut the straps and made a halter top.  Then I cut some excess fabric and made two straps for ties and a pocket.
First I folded and ironed around the outside seam of the dress and sewed it so that the sides were even and finished.
Next I sewed the pocket onto tohe front of the apron.

Last I sewed the strips into straps and attached to the apron.

And Voila!  My old dress became two sweet new items!  Whoo hoo.. I think I am in love with my sewing machine!
