Father's Day Topiary

Mr. Pinkapotamus is A-mazing!  But he is not a golf playing tie wearing kinda man... so therefore all of the traditional Father's Day decor does not fit his personality.  So for him I decided to go non traditional and make some things that represent him.. TOOLS!  Since he is a DIY, car fixing, motorcycle building, let's go fishing or hiking kinda Dad.
So here is my Father's Day Topiary to match his window!
So if you have a Dad or Hubby with the same interests here is how you can make one!

Ingredients
Ceramic Pot
Scrapbook Paper
Small wood dowels
Styrofoam
Twine
Nails and Screws

I started by making a template of the tools I wanted in the topiary.
Next I cut out the tools on the scrapbook paper and taped them together.

So they looked like this.

Then I taped them to wood skewers and put them into the styrofoam in the pot.

Last I used my Cricut to cut out the word DAD and hung it on the twine and tied it to the back.

Last I added all different types of nails and screws that we had in the basement to give it a finished look!

Then I placed it on the mantle next to our DAD picture window.

Hope you have fun ways to celebrate Dads tomorrow too!

Upcycled Window for Father's Day

Awhile back my neighbor had an old window that she was getting rid of.
Of course I took it home and turned it into a picture frame for my mantle.

This is what it looked like for Valentine's Day..

so I figured it needed a change!
With Father's Day coming up I thought that it would make a perfect decoration for my Father's Day mantle.
If you want to see how I made it.. stop by and visit me here!

Hope you have a Happy Father's Day with all of the super special Daddies in your life this weekend!

Pinwheel Birthday Banner!

My friend Carolyn's little guy is turning 1!  I am soo excited.. so this weekend she is celebrating with a fabulous barnyard bash.. and of course I couldn't wait to help.  First off I helped with some super cute cupcake toppers.. (which I have been sworn to secrecy on.. so no sharing for me!)  So now I am doing the birthday banner!  And really what could be cuter on memorial day weekend than an American inspired pinwheel birthday banner?
So here is Jake's!
And a tutorial in case you want to make one for your Memorial day celebration!
First start by cutting your scrapbook paper (preferably double sided) into 5" x 5" squares.  I used my cutting mat and a razor knife.
Next cut the corners of each square almost to the middle but not quite there.   I used my fancy edged scissors.
Then put some glue in the center of each square and fold one side of each corner into the center.
Last glue on your letters to spell your message.

Then punch holes in it and hang it
 up!

Voila!  Your decoration is complete and adorable or completely adorable!

Mother's Day Brag Book Key Chain

If you are one of my family's "Mommies"  you need to walk away from your computer .. NOW!    You know who you are and I mean now.. unless of course that is that you totally want to ruin Mother's Day for yourselves.
Now as for the rest of my lovely followers this is one of the items that I am making for Mother's day this year.
 A Brag Book Key chain..
just a small memento to let them know we care and also so that they can share my lovelies with everyone else!  That is a grandparents right isn't it?
So here is what you need to make some!

Ingredients
Chip board
Scrapbook Paper
Paint
Mod Podge
Ribbon
Key Chain

Start by cutting your paper into a 3" x 3" rectangle.

I cheat and use my Cricut.

Then trace the shape onto the chipboard and cut it out.

Paint the edge of the chipboard to match your paper

Glue ribbon loop  with keychain to the inside of the chipboard.

Cut out paper for the inside of the album and then fold accordian style.

Then glue one piece of ribbon on either inside cover of the chipboard.

Mod Podge the paper on top of the ribbon.

The outside shouldd look like this.

Then glue ribbon on the outside edge to give the apearance of a book.

Add pictures of your kids and tie closed with a bow!

Your Mommy would love one!

Upcycle those Christmas Cards!

Ever wonder what in the world to do with ALL of those Chrimtmas cards that you get?  Well here is a great example of how to upcycle them on a budget!
How about a paper bag photo album?
This was super fun to make and doesn't cost much at all! I'm pretty sure that you can buy a bag of paper bags for about $1 and have plenty leftover to make more! As for me this project was 100% free as I used all items that I had in the house: red bags, scrapbook paper, Christmas stickers and cards. The beautiful red bags were donated to my cause by my hubby!
I made this while that darn camera was still MIA so I will have to post a tutorial a little later when I get a chance to make another one.  I offered to make one for a friend so I will use hers as the tutorial!   So now on with the show!

This is the album with the cover open.. so you can see my whole Christmas card from this year.
This is my daughter's page with her name and pictures of her through the year
and her letter from Santa.

This is the page with all of the pictures from our Family.
This is my middle guy's page.
This our first friend page.
Then onto my Little Guy's page.
Then our last page of friends!
Also because the album is made of bags, I put all of the cards that we received inside of them so that I now have my Christmas card list ready for next year!
So this year save those Christmas cards from an untimely death in the garbage can and make yourself an album!
