Spoon Pendant

The hubby and I have been on the hunt for old spoons... now.. this may seem quite an odd thing to seek out.. but he wants to make me a windchime (similar to this one from http://jos2ndact.blogspot.com/ ) out of old spoons.
  Sweet, isn't he?
Well, we recently had a neighbor who was moving who had to clean out her house who donated this HUGE bag of silverware to our crafty cause!
Yay!
So in the meantime, I have been wracking my brains of other cool things that I could make out of upcycled spoons, when it hit me that it would make a cool pendant.
So I took one of the spoons that my hubby flattened (did I mention that we have really cool tools?).
Then I bent it so that the ends would meet.
Next I spray painted it flat black.
Once it was dry I used my hot glue gun to add some cool jewels
that I got from an old bracelet I bought from a garage sale for $1.
Then I got some black cord and made it into a cool necklace.
And here it is on me!  It's really BIG..next time I might try to cut the bottom off to make it a bit smaller.. or of course I could always try a smaller spoon!
Double upcycle.. so cool!

Fun Mom Moments from the Pink Hippo

I became a mom on August 4, 2002 when I delivered a sweet little girl. (she was 2 here)
I was only 22 and totally over the moon in love with this wonderful little creature that God had given to us.
I was a new stay at home mom and knew NOTHING about taking care of a home and the baby thing was new..
Enter Awesome Mom Moment #1
Bring home new baby.. assume that breastfed babies DO NOT need to be burped.  Continue feeding poor child who is crying because you think she is hungry until her little tummy is SOOOO full that it ALL comes out!  Never knew you could be covered from head to toe in breastmilk from someone sooo tiny!
Babies DON'T come with instructions.. darn!
Things I never thought I would have to say:
1.  Put your brother down, you are not a professional wrestler and he is NOT your opponent.
2.  We do not wear capes at the table.
3.  Poop goes in the toilet.. not smeared all around it!
4.  It is 30 degrees outside.. no you may not wear SHORTS!
5.  Please don't call your brothers, pests, pesto faces or little monsters!
6.  Get off the table and STOP eating the butter!
7. Is that a bug in your mouth?
8.  Please stop eating the Sheetrock!
9.  Yes, sexy does mean attractive but , no, it is NOT a child appropriate word.  (to my 5 year old)
10.  Can Mommy, please have her bras back?

And here are the grandmothers, who have meant so much to me my whole life that I lost this year.. I miss them soo much.
And my husband's grandmother, just last week.
Cheers to all of you Mommas out there!
And especially to my Momma!  You're the best!
Happy Mother's Day from the Pink hippo family!

Felt Crown and an Announcement

My poor little girl is home sick today .. so I thought that we could have some crafty fun together!  So we made this simple, sweet felt crown.
It was easy and fun to make and it all started with this earring that came a garage sale for a dollar!
I started by cutting a rectangle piece of white felt that was folded over.
Then I folded a small piece so that it would have a thicker edge.
Next I sewed it into place (for my regular long time followers.. can you imagine.. me sewing?)
Then cut the crown top.
Then I sewed around each edge.
I also added a piece of elastic so that it would fit nicely without being too tight.
And here it is just begging to be embellished!  At this point it could go for a boy or girl.. or of course a cute crown in honor of the late Great Maurice Sendak and "Where the wild things are" kind of crown.
Next I added a pink feather boa with a hot glue gun.
Then I added my bling.. cause every princess needs some sparkle!
I love it!  Nothing makes you feel better than being treated like a princess!
And now for the announcement!  I am soo excited to announce that tomorrow I will be hosting  a new Blog Hop for all of my lovely bloggy friends who have under 300 followers!  So if you are new to blogging and looking for some new followers or some new blogs to follow stop by and link up!
