Princess Crown Tutorial

I am busy working on stuff for the craft show.. so in the meantime for anyone who missed it.. here is my tutorial for a princess crown from my Spotlight at Mommaskindacrafty @ http://mommaskindacrafty.blogspot.com/

My daughter kids love to play dress up.  They are always trying on different costumes and shoes and pretending to be princesses, knights, superheroes and pirates.  As my daughter has gotten older, sometimes it is hard to find costumes in her size.. so we have started to make accessories to fit her that she can add to clothes or costumes that she has not yet outgrown.  One of our favorite things to make are princess crowns.

This is one that is made from a wreath from the dollar store.  I start with a wreath, felt, ribbon, pearls, jewels a feather boa and a cardboard box sorry I mean a piece of heavy scrapbook paper.  Oh yeah.. don't forget to fire up that trusty hot glue gun!

First I wrap the wreath in ribbon.  I glue one end of the ribbon and then wrap the whole wreath overlapping each repeat so that none of the wreath is showing.

When I get to the end of the ribbon I wrap it around and then loop the end through and pull.  I then cut the ribbon into a V so that it has a fancy finished look.

Once the wreath is covered then I move on to the center.  First I make a pattern for the center of the crown on heavy scrapbook paper.  (I originally tried this with a cereal box but it was too heavy and didn't make the right shape circle.)  I then trace the same shape with an extra 1/2 inch to the top and 1 inch on the bottom.
I then glue the felt with craft glue to the paper.  Once the glue is dry I fold the bottom edge up and glue with hot glue.
Then I  glue the center to the inside of the wreath and embellish it with a feather boa, pearls and jewels!  Here is the finished product.

My little princess loves hers!

Hope yours will love one too!
P.s. If you are feeling lazy or don't have a wreath and ribbon.. it also works with just the center sized to your child's head!  Imagination is the limit here!

  2. Love the tiara, so adorable! I save my son's costumes for all sorts of dress up. BTW thanks for the belly band idea, I totally forgot I had one lying around from the first pregnancy! Increasing the shelf life of my pants, yay!
